After a Road Crash: Sorry Business

Keeping a strong connection can be helpful during sorry business.

When it is sorry business, it’s important to help the ones affected. You can visit them, call them, send a text, or write them a card to show you care. You can’t make someone’s hurt go away, but you can help them and let them talk about it.

  • Avoid phrases like ‘They’re in a better place.”
  • Let them talk about their feelings.
  • Be kind and patient.
  • Listen quietly.
  • Let them decide how they want to be supported.

Physical activities can help people who are dealing with grief.

Relaxing: Walk on country, sit and yarn with elders about past times- listen to the stories.

Movement: Encourage your family or friends to be active or join in on sporting activities.

Creativity: Traditional artwork, song, dance or storytelling.

If someone is sad because they lost someone close, don’t stay away because you don’t know what to say. Create a safe place for the individual to express their emotions.

Being a good brother, sister and friend helps people with their grief during sorry business.
