Injury Matters offers four different Stay On Your Feet® community talks or presentations for people living independently within the Perth Metropolitan area that make learning about falls prevention fun. All presentations are free, and run for 45 minutes and are delivered by a Stay On Your Feet® Volunteer Peer Educator or Injury Matters staff member.

Stay On Your Feet® presentations are for people living independently within the Perth Metropolitan area and may not be suitable for groups with higher care needs. Please contact us to discuss other options.

Move Improve Remove presentation

The Move Improve Remove presentation covers all of the Stay On Your Feet® key messages for preventing falls. Information covered includes:

  • Information about why people may fall
  • Move Your Body, including building balance and strength
  • Improve Your Health, including managing your medications, nutrition and healthy eating, and keeping a healthy mind
  • Remove Hazards, including home safety and hazards in and around the home, wearing safe footwear, and checking your eyesight
  • Tips and strategies for preventing falls
  • The health professionals that can help you to prevent having a fall

Move Your Body presentation

The Move Your Body presentation focuses on building strength and balance to prevent falls and promote healthy ageing. Information covered includes:

  • The importance of balance and leg strength
  • The factors that can affect balance and leg strength
  • Exercises that you can do to challenge your balance and improve your leg strength
  • The health professionals that can help you build your balance and strengthen your legs

Improve Your Health presentation

The Improve Your Health presentation focuses on managing medications, fueling your body with healthy foods and keeping an active mind to reduce the risk of falls and support healthy ageing. Information covered includes:

  • The different types of medication, side effects that can cause falls, and tools to help manage your medication
  • How to keep an active and healthy mind to support memory, alertness, and reaction time
  • How to fuel your body across the five food groups and which nutrients you need to support fall prevention
  • The health professionals that can help you to check your medicines, keep a healthy mind, and fuel your body

Remove Hazards Presentation

The Remove Hazards presentation focuses on creating safe environments and looking after your eyesight and feet to prevent falls and promote healthy ageing. Information covered includes:

  • How to identify and remove hazards in and around your home, including how to use the home safety checklist to make your home safer.
  • Common eye conditions, how to look after your eyesight, and when to get your eyes checked.
  • Common foot problems, looking after your feet, and what makes footwear safe.
  • The health professionals that can help you to make your home safer, check your eyesight, and wear safe footwear.

Presentations are only available in the metro region for groups of 15 or more attendees.
