Russ Milner Memorial Lecture

The Australasian Injury Prevention Network (AIPN) has established the Russ Milner Memorial Lecture in memory of Russ’s contribution to, and passion for, injury prevention.

During this year’s event, we will hear from the Director of the Royal Children’s Hospital Trauma Services, Associate Professor Warwick Teague, and the winners of the 2022 Australasian Injury Prevention Network Awards will also be announced. Join us via Zoom on Tuesday 26th April from 12 – 1:30 pm for the inaugural lecture.

Firearms Act 1973 Review

WA Police are currently seeking feedback regarding WA’s Firearms legislation. To ensure WA complies with commitments made within the 2017 National Firearms Agreement, to minimise unnecessary injury attributed to firearm misuse and to ensure community safety remains at the heart of the WA Firearms Act, Injury Matters encourages the WA injury prevention sector to have your say on the legislative changes by completing the online survey.

Overview of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health status 2021

Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet’s latest publication Overview of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health status 2021 (the Overview) provides a comprehensive summary of the most recent indicators of the health and current health status of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The publication collates a number of injury-related statistics, including that in Australia injury, was the leading cause of hospitalisation (excluding dialysis), the third leading cause of death and the second-highest contribution to a total burden for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
