Who we are.
At Injury Matters, our vision is for safer people and places. We aim to prevent and reduce the impact of injury within the Western Australian community, and support those who have been affected by injury. We do this through awareness raising, workforce development, advocacy and through recovery support. Our Know Injury program provides practitioners with knowledge and skills to deliver evidence-informed injury prevention activities.
Injury prevention needs to be made a priority.
Every day, over 4 people die due to an injury-related incident. Injuries place a significant burden on the health care system through disability, premature death, and trauma, making them a serious public health issue. The widespread impact of injury across Western Australia highlights the need to focus on its preventable and predictable nature.
How can we prevent injuries?
There are many ways to prevent injuries. One widely used method is the Public Health Approach to Injury Prevention. This approach helps us understand the problem, identify its causes, and implement effective strategies to reduce injuries and harm. This approach is most popularly used by local government workers, health promotion officers and community engagement officers.
