Each year on the third Sunday in November, communities around the world pause to reflect on the devastating impact of road crashes. The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDoR) honours those who have lost their lives or been seriously injured on our roads, and acknowledges the families, friends, first responders, and professionals who support them.
Here in Western Australia, the effects of road trauma ripple through our lives and communities. At Road Trauma Support WA (RTSWA), we see firsthand how deeply lives are changed by a single crash, not only for those directly involved, but for family, friends, communities and our emergency workers.
From Remembrance to Action
WDoR is not only a time to remember, but also a call to act. Every life lost on our roads is one too many, and every crash has a lasting ripple effect. Through information and support, education and training and specialist counselling, RTSWA supports individuals and families impacted by road trauma and works alongside stakeholders to help raise awareness of the importance of shared responsibility on our roads.
This year’s theme “Remember. Support. Act.” reflects the heart of our work:
- Remember those lost or injured, and the many lives changed forever.
- Support those living with grief and trauma, and those who respond to road crashes.
- Act by promoting safer roads, trauma-informed reporting, and a culture of care on WA roads.
You Are Not Alone
If you or someone you know has been affected by a road crash, whether recently or many years ago, support is available. Road Trauma Support WA offers free information and support and personalised counselling to anyone impacted by road trauma, anywhere in Western Australia.
This World Day of Remembrance, join us in honouring those lost, supporting those left behind, and taking action to make WA roads safer for everyone.
