While National Reconciliation week draws to an end, our work towards reconciliation does not. We all have a role to play in reconciliation, and while the journey may be confronting, emotional and challenging, we will continue to stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We will continue to listen, learn and grow.

Injury Matters were privileged to be invited by South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) to join them in the Reconciliation Bridge Walk in Goomburrup (Bunbury) on Thursday 26th May. Two members of the Injury Matters team joined over 2,800 people attending the event.

The walk began at Koombana Bay and ended at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell. Following the ‘Be Brave, Make Change’ Reconciliation Walk attendees enjoyed listening to cultural music, performances, stories, and poetry. As well as a flag-raising ceremony and a free sausage sizzle. The event was organised by Yaka Danjoo Events, The City of Bunbury, with partnerships and support from SWAMS and many other local businesses and organisations.
Our team also came together on Friday, 27th May, to watch the National Reconciliation Week Virtual Breakfast for the first day of National Reconciliation Week.
Over one million West Australians joined to watch the Welcome to Country from Elders across Western Australia, cultural entertainment, a powerful keynote presentation, and a panel discussion with guests from across our regions.
We want to thank Gather Foods for supplying the delicious Strawberry Quandong Jam that we shared with our muffins and cinnamon scrolls!
