At Injury Matters, we are fortunate to have a team of passionate and dedicated Stay On Your Feet® Volunteer Peer Educators who play a key role in helping raise awareness of preventing slips, trips and falls among older adults in the community.
We are incredibly proud to celebrate Jo Godecke who has been recognised by Injury Matters and the WA community for her commitment and dedication to volunteering by receiving a Hasluck Volunteer Award.
Volunteering for the Stay on Your Feet® program for over nine years, Jo is Injury Matter’s longest-standing Peer Educator and has been a vital part of our team. Over the years, Jo has become a trusted face in the community, working to raise awareness and educate her older adult peers to stay independent by using the Move Improve Remove steps to prevent falls.
Whether it is supporting Stay on Your Feet® at events and healthy ageing expos or delivering Stay on Your Feet® presentations to Probus clubs, libraries, retirement villages, and Men’s Sheds, Jo has a unique ability to connect with people. As a retired nurse, she is aware of the impact falls and falls-related injuries can have on older adults. Jo works with purpose and empathy to achieve better outcomes for older adults living in the WA community, using her experience and skills to deliver informative and engaging falls prevention messaging.
For Jo, family is a cornerstone of her motivation and success as a volunteer. Her husband and daughters are a constant source of support, encouragement, and inspiration. Jo shared her joy of being able to celebrate with her family who were present to see her receive her award on stage at the Hasluck Volunteer Awards Ceremony. Jo’s passion and commitment to preventing falls and promote healthy ageing, along with her positive attitude and wonderful sense of humour, are invaluable to Injury Matters and the wider community.
