Last week, Injury Matters was proud to partner with AUSactive to deliver the Active Balance for Falls Prevention workshop, an event that reached full capacity thanks to AUSactive’s generous support in promoting the opportunity to their members. The strong interest reflects a growing commitment within the health and fitness sector to empower older adults to stay active, independent, and connected for longer.
The half-day Active Balance for Falls Prevention workshop equips health and fitness professionals in Western Australia with practical, evidence-based strategies to reduce falls among older adults living in the community. Built on exercise-based falls prevention principles, the workshop explores the essential knowledge and hands-on skills required to safely incorporate balance and strength exercises into day-to-day practice.

We were fortunate to have the CEO and Strength for Life Program Manager from COTA WA join the session. They shared:
“Attending the ‘Stay On Your Feet® Active Balance workshop provided invaluable insights into the life-changing impact of evidence-based falls-prevention programming. The session highlighted that while falls are a significant health risk for older adults, they are often preventable through targeted balance and strength interventions. I gained a deeper appreciation for the specialised value that trained exercise professionals bring to the community, their expertise ensures that physical activity is not only effective but safely tailored to individual needs. For me, this workshop was a meaningful upskilling opportunity that has improved my ability to recognise falls risk factors and effectively champion active aging initiatives within my professional sphere.”
AUSactive’s Karinda Lobb, Business and Partnership Manager WA, also reflected on the impact of collaboration:
“Great things happen when organisations work together. Through the partnership between AUSactive and Injury Matters, AUSactive members were given the chance to attend a free Active Balance for Falls Prevention workshop, helping exercise professionals build confidence delivering safe, evidence-based programs that support falls prevention and healthy ageing. With fitness programs for older adults ranked the #1 trend in the 2025 AUSactive Australian Fitness Trends Survey, this collaboration highlights the growing role of the exercise and active health sector in preventative health, helping older adults reduce their fall risk, stay active, improve independence, quality of life and stay connected for longer.”
Injury Matters looks forward to continuing our partnership with AUSactive to strengthen community-based falls prevention across Western Australia.
