Responsible Reporting of Road Trauma

This session provides participants with an understanding of how trauma affects individuals, families and communities. Using a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach, the session explores practical ways to minimise harm, uphold ethical standards and support help-seeking when communicating about road trauma. Through real-world media examples and case studies, participants will explore how to balance public interest with compassion and accuracy, without causing further harm. The session will also encourage personal reflection on wellbeing strategies to help mitigate the impact.

The workshop will help you get better informed on:

  • Recognising the importance of responsible reporting in post-crash care and road safety
  • Trauma awareness: how it may look and understand its impact
  • Understanding of how to ethically report on road trauma incidents.
  • Insight into vicarious trauma and reflection on lessening the impact
  • Awareness of the support offered by Road Trauma Support WA.
