Child Safe Project

The Department of Communities Royal Commission Implementation Team has engaged WACOSS in a discretionary grant agreement to deliver a Child Safe Project to support the implementation of National Child Safe Principles by smaller and regional service organisations.

The Child Safe Project will provide training and capacity building opportunities for small to medium organisations, their staff and volunteers, endeavouring to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to create safe environments for children.

Updated Life in Mind Portal

The Life in Mind digital portal has undergone a redevelopment to improve its functionality to ensure that those who have a role in suicide prevention can easily access and apply current data, evidence, research, strategies, and safe language principles to their work.

National Women’s Health Advisory Council

The National Women’s Health Advisory Council wants to hear from women, experts, health care professionals, consumer representatives and peak stakeholder groups to better understand the challenges women face in Australia’s healthcare system.

Multicultural Framework Review

The 2021 Census highlights the diverse make-up, with more than half of Australian residents (51.5%) were born overseas or have at least one parent born overseas. The Review aims to identify how to better meet the needs of Australia’s increasingly diverse society. It is the first principles review of multicultural Australia and will provide clarity, ensuring principles are relevant, responsive and adaptable.

The Journey Ending Family and Domestic Violence Conference

The Centre for Women’s Safety and Wellbeing and Stopping Family Violence are hosting the 2023 Conference: The Journey to Ending Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence. The conference will explore the relationships across primary prevention, early intervention, response and recovery. It will focus on a ‘whole of systems approach’ across all sectors, key research and policy work, interventions and new initiatives.

Survey on road safety improvement in a mixed-used urban area

A research team from the School of Design and the Built Environment, Curtin University, Bentley campus, is working on a research project about road safety improvement in a mixed-used urban area. The research project aims to investigate user-oriented road safety preference and their perceptions and motivation toward a more responsive and comprehensive road safety strategy.

‘Sounds Like’ it’s time to quit smoking

In a bid to prompt people who smoke to quit, Cancer Council WA’s Make Smoking History Program will re-run the new campaign, Sounds Like, across Western Australia from Sunday 27 August 2023.

The campaign focuses on the earlier health impacts of smoking including smoker’s cough, wheezing, breathlessness, and gum disease.

Introduction to population-based alcohol and other drug prevention training
30 October – 1 November 2023, 9.00am – 4.30pm

The Mental Health Commission, Community Support and Development Programs team are providing a workshop relevant for those who work in a population-based prevention role.

It will provide participants with an overview of the role of prevention in addressing AOD issues in the community via an understanding of AOD prevention theory, practice, and resources to support the implementation of evidence-informed AOD prevention strategies.
