New Alcohol Use Report

Almost half of Australians are negatively affected by others’ alcohol use, according to a new report from the Centre for Alcohol Policy Research at La Trobe University.

The report found:

  • Almost half of Australians are negatively affected by others’ alcohol use.
  • Alcohol is involved up to 47% of police-reported family and domestic violence incidents, underscoring calls for urgent reform.
  • One in six children are harmed by someone else’s alcohol use

A contract has been awarded to deliver a new Family and Domestic Violence Workforce Entity, boosting training and professional development to strengthen Western Australia’s frontline response to family and domestic violence (FDV).

The workforce entity will be responsible for planning and delivering workforce development initiatives, facilitating high‑quality training, and supporting implementation of key system reform actions.

The Australian Red Cross are providing phone-based wellbeing checks for eligible people who may be at higher risks of health impacts during a heatwave, no matter where they live.

The service is for people who live alone, older people, those with a disability, people recovering from illness or injury and those experiencing mental health challenges.
