Launch of the clean air campaign cancer council

Cancer Council WA have launched a new digital campaign, Clear the Air, in a bid to prevent people taking up vaping, following new data that shows the number of 14-24 year olds who currently vape has skyrocketed since 2020.

New Injury Reports from Royal Perth Hospital

Two new Reports are available regarding admissions to Royal Perth Hospital due to Road Trauma and Spinal Injuries from water-related activities. These Reports break down key demographic and clinical information regarding the admissions including that;

  • Between 2013 and 2022, 12,353 patients involved in road trauma were admitted to RPH for more than 24 hours.
  • Most patients admitted to RPH with spinal injuries from water-related activities were admitted during the summer months.

Head Injuries in Australia 2020-21 AIHW report 

A new report released by the AIHW found every four minutes, someone in Australia is hospitalised for a head injury. 

  • Falls and transport were the top two causes for head injury hospitalisations. 
  • Males made up 2 in 3 head injury ED presentations and deaths.  
  • Children aged 0-4 years contributed to around half of all injury ED presentations and hospitalisations for head injuries.
