Creating Healthier Streets in WA

Last week, Injury Matters, through the Know Injury program, hosted the “Creating Healthier Communities: A Healthy Streets Approach to Injury Prevention” workshop. We were lucky to have Lucy Saunders come to Perth and deliver an engaging and insightful training session.

Participants had the opportunity to head out into the community to apply the Healthy Streets On-Street Assessment tool, evaluating local streets through a subjective ‘Feelings Survey’ and objective ‘Measurement Survey’. The hands-on assessments were followed by a group discussion focusing on the 10 Healthy Streets Indicators, encouraging reflection on how streets can be designed to support safer, healthier communities.

Find out what workshop participants had to say:

“[This workshop had] information I hadn’t considered before. Will be taken to our project planning processes and community engagement sessions.”

“We will incorporate [The Healthy Streets Approach] into our Public Health Plan. And discuss with planners and engineers.”

‘Great workshop. Very valuable… all the information was very relevant and interactive.”
