During the 2024/2025 financial year Injury Matters continued to grow the capacity of the WA injury prevention sector through the Know Injury program. With funding from the WA Department of Health, a variety of Know Injury activities were provided over the last twelve months, a number of which are highlighted below.

As part of the ongoing evaluation of the Know Injury program, in early 2025, the University of Western Australia’s Centre for Social Impact measured the program’s impact by conducting an online survey and interviews with Know Injury program participants. Injury Matters thanks everyone who took the time to participate in the evaluation activities, your feedback is greatly appreciated.
Impact evaluation results
The 177 members of WA’s injury prevention workforce who completed the online survey engaged in a variety of Know Injury activities. Overall, the results indicate a high level of satisfaction with the program, with 82% of survey respondents agreeing that they were satisfied with the program, 83% agreeing that they had a positive experience with the program and 86% indicating that they would recommend the program to others. Respondents also commonly reported that the program increased their knowledge (77%), skills (66%) and confidence (68%) to conduct injury prevention and safety promotion activities.
Following their participation in the program, survey respondents reported implementing their learnings in several ways including; using local injury data to inform their Public Health Plans, applying new skills learnt from workshops and webinars to their injury prevention programs, utilising information from the website to inform research proposals and advocacy activities, and building new partnerships with local injury prevention stakeholders.
Participants offered a broad range of suggestions to enhance the Know Injury program’s future activities and resources. Recommendations included increasing levels of awareness and engagement in passive recipients of information (e.g., eNews subscribers), expanding regional outreach, enhancing networking and training opportunities, improving resource accessibility, and targeting content to meet the evolving needs of diverse communities and sectors.
The external evaluation concluded that the Know Injury program has made a significant contribution to strengthening the injury prevention and safety promotion workforce in WA. By delivering practical, evidence-informed resources and activities, Know Injury has not only built sector capacity but has also helped to increase the visibility and perceived value of injury prevention and safety promotion.
