New AIHW Indigenous Mental Health and Suicide Prevention publications 

Indigenous domestic and family violence, mental health and suicide 
This report highlights how Indigenous Australians’ experiences of domestic and family violence (DFV) are affected by current law, policy, programs and services. It discusses research and programs where DFV intersects with mental health and/or suicide and focuses on best practice and ways to improve outcomes for Indigenous Australians.  

Intergenerational trauma and mental health 
The link between exposure to trauma and increased risk of poor mental health is well established. This paper aims to define the link between intergenerational trauma and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ mental health and to identify current best-practice policies and programs to address this issue.  

Joining forces at the World Falls Prevention Conference Perth 

Injury Matters is proud to be accepted to host a pre-conference workshop at the upcoming Australia and New Zealand Falls Prevention Society & World Falls Congress 2023 Joint Conference in Perth. 

This workshop will bring together a diverse range of community-based healthcare professionals to explore challenges and solutions in providing collaborative care throughout the community pathway of falls prevention and integrating coordinated multidisciplinary care within their work.

Held on 25 July, this years World Drowning Prevention Day encourages everyone to “Do one thing. Improve one thing. Add one thing” to increase knowledge and safety in and around the water.

Age-friendly communities grants 

Grants of up to $15,000 will be available through the Age-friendly Communities Connectivity Grants Program to local governments and not-for profit community organisations to undertake initiatives that build older people’s connection to community. 

The Age-friendly Communities Connectivity Grants Program closes on 19 July 2023.

New AIHW Sporting Injuries Report 

In 2020–21, about 66,500 sports injuries led to a hospital stay in Australia. This latest report by AIHW describes the people who were hospitalised, the sports they were playing, and the types of injuries they sustained.
