Meet the Stay On Your Feet® Move Your Body grant recipients

With the next Stay On Your Feet® Move Your Body campaign launching in March, Injury Matters congratulates the successful Move Your Body grant recipients who have commenced planning their community-based grant programs.

Move Your body is one part of the Move Improve Remove messaging that encourages older adults to stay active, independent, and prevent falls. Move Your Body looks at simple changes for preventing falls, focusing on building strength and balance.

Meet our successful Move Your Body grant recipients for 2024.

Ability WA

Ability WA will address the Build Your Balance and Strengthen Your Legs aspects of the Move Your Body campaign. Ability WA aims to deliver a program for older adults with a disability throughout April 2024, which will involve:

  • A promotional “April falls” campaign.
  • Delivery of a Move Your Body masterclass by Ability WA Exercise Physiologists to upskill Community Services Coordinators around falls prevention and building strength and balance among clients.
  • A Move Your Body open day, hosted by Ability WA Exercise Physiologists for Ability WA clients, their families, and support networks. The open day will include educational Move Your Body falls prevention presentations, one-on-one and group exercise sessions for clients to try, and the distribution of resources.
  • A Move Your Body “Road Show”, which will involve visiting self-referred clients in their homes to embed strength and balance knowledge, awareness, and exercises into their daily living.

City of Mandurah

This project will address the Build Your Balance and Strengthen Your Legs aspects of the Move Your Body campaign. The City of Mandurah will deliver a six-week program will be aimed at older adults with a disability in the City of Mandurah area.

The City of Mandurah will use their existing outdoor fitness equipment to hold one exercise session each week, delivered by an instructor from Ability Gym, an exercise-based disability service provider. Each session will also incorporate a short educational presentation to increase participant falls prevention knowledge.

City of South Perth

The City of South Perth will address the Build Your Balance and Strengthen Your Legs aspects of the Move Your Body campaign. This project will be aimed at older adults in the City of South Perth area through an eight-week program.

The sessions will use existing outdoor exercise equipment, conveniently located nearby to local retirement living, and will involve two low-impact strength and balance sessions each week. Participants will also be provided with simple take-home exercises to practice in between sessions.

Julie Ruzich Physiotherapy and Functional Solutions OT services

This project will address the Build Your Balance and Strengthen Your Legs aspects of the Move Your Body campaign.

In partnership, Julie Ruzich Physiotherapy and Functional Solutions OT services will deliver an 8-week Otago Exercise Program aimed at older adults in the Margaret River Region. The program will also be complemented with short educational sessions about falls prevention, how to continue exercises at home, and home safety.
