The team travelled to Kalgoorlie to support RAC’s Project Road Smart event, held at the Kalgoorlie Arts Centre on the 25th of May. Whilst in Kalgoorlie, we met with local stakeholders and community organisations who were incredibly welcoming and keen to share with us the work they’ve been doing in the region.
We’d like to shout-out the Hope Community Services, Bega Garnbirringu Health Services, Eastern Goldfields Community Centre, C.Y. O’Connor Men’s Shed and St John WA Kalgoorlie for taking the time to speak with us and share their local knowledge. It was fantastic to hear about the many great initiatives and events happening in the region this year, such as the Seniors Expo in June and the For Our Elders Expo in July.
The Kalgoorlie RAC Project Road Smart saw 300 year 10 to 12 students from across the Goldfields region participate in the event which includes the crash re-enactment filmed docudrama demonstrating the consequences of distracted driving, speeding and drink and drug driving. Students also heard from guest speakers such as Rob Pike, sharing his own lived experience of being in a car crash and Julian Pace from Happiness Co, empowering students to make good decisions on the road.
