Healthy Streets is an evidence-based approach to designing and managing streets that support health, sustainability, fairness and community well-being. This approach focuses on the continuous improvement of existing conditions to enhance everyday life for all community members.

In Western Australia, local governments are required to develop Public Health Plans. These plans should consider how the built environment and local infrastructure influence community health outcomes, including the prevention of injuries, chronic disease and environmental health risks. Built environment and transport are two priority areas that local governments should consider when creating their public health plan to prevent injury.

Join Injury Matters, with guest presenter Lucy Saunders from Healthy Streets, for the “Creating Safer Communities: A Healthy Streets Approach to Preventing Injury” interactive workshop on Thursday, 28 August 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, where we will:

• Go through an introduction to the Healthy Streets Approach
• Assess the safety of nearby streets (subjectively and objectively)
• Explore Healthy Streets assessments and tools
• Discuss how different groups are impacted by street features
• Identify actions and next steps to make your street safer

There will also be the opportunity for Lucy to answer questions about Healthy Streets and how you can implement this Approach.
