SUMMARY:Setting the record straight on evidence-based exercises for falls prevention
DESCRIPTION:Falls are a major public health concern – they are common in people aged 65 and older\, and are the leading cause of injury in this age group. Around one-third of generally healthy people aged 65 and older will have at least one fall each year. It is important that health professionals working with older adults implement and promote evidence-based exercises that can decrease the incidence of fall related injury. Exercises to prevent falls can increase muscle strength\, flexibility\, balance\, and reaction time as these risk factors for falls are considered the most readily modified. \nAhead of Stay On Your Feet®’s Move Your Body campaign\, this webinar\, with guest speaker Jenny Conlon from Notre Dame University\, aims to go over the different evidence-based exercises that are proven to reduce falls in older adults\, along with any tools or equipment that health professionals can use\, as well as the screening methods for falls when working with an older adult client. \nThis webinar aims to: \n\nIncrease knowledge of evidence-based exercises for falls prevention\nIncrease awareness of the different tools and equipment that can be used in evidence-based falls prevention exercises\nIncrease skills in performing falls prevention screening\n\nWho should attend? \nThis webinar is suitable for early career allied health professionals\, support workers\, carers\, fitness instructors\, therapy assistants\, peer exercise leaders\, health promotion program coordinators\, public health advocates\, and early career physiotherapists and occupational therapists working with older adults. \nRegister here
