SUMMARY:Creating Safer Communities: A Healthy Streets Approach to Preventing Injury
DESCRIPTION:Healthy Streets is an evidence-based approach to designing and managing streets that support health\, sustainability\, fairness and community well-being. This approach focuses on the continuous improvement of existing conditions to enhance everyday life for all community members. \nIn Western Australia\, local governments are required to develop Public Health Plans. These plans should consider how the built environment and local infrastructure influence community health outcomes\, including the prevention of injuries\, chronic disease and environmental health risks. SUMMARY:Preventing eRideable Injuries in Western Australia
DESCRIPTION:e-Rideables are rapidly emerging as a popular mode of transport in Australia\, offering a convenient\, cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative for short trips. However\, this rise in popularity has been accompanied by a rise in injury rates\, with hospitals reporting more cases of fractures\, head injuries and collisions involving riders and pedestrians. It was seen that St John WA responded to 120 incidents in 2021\, increasing to 276 in 2022\, 453 in 2023\, and 539 in 2024. \nRecently\, the Parliament of Western Australia released the “Inquiry into the safety\, regulation and penalties associated with the use of electric powered mobility devices”. SUMMARY:Recognising and Responding to Elder Abuse in Older Adults Workshop - Geraldton
DESCRIPTION:Elder abuse is a serious public health and social issue\, estimated to effect 1 in 6 older adults in Western Australia. It can take many forms\, including financial\, social\, physical\, sexual\, psychological and emotional abuse\, and neglect\, and can occur in a range of different settings. Elder abuse can have ongoing health impacts on an individual\, such as physical injury\, poor mental health and increased risk of premature entry into residential aged care. \nAs with many forms of abuse\, it can be difficult for an individual experiencing elder abuse to speak out.
