SUMMARY:Creating inclusive spaces for people with disability
DESCRIPTION:Individuals with disability have the right to access services and public spaces with ease and without discrimination. Inclusion is the best method to ensure people with disabilities are given the same opportunities to participate in society across social\, educational\, and employment settings. Social inclusion is particularly important for people with disability\, where lacking access to crucial health services and not being able to access social events can lead to adverse health effects and social exclusion\, which can lead to physical and mental injuries. \n\n23% of people with disability aged 15-64 have difficulty getting to places needed\n39% of people with disability are not satisfied with their local community\n1 in 6 (17%) people with disability aged 15-64 experience social isolation\n\nInclusive spaces for people with disability is important to consider\, especially in light of the upcoming International Day of People with Disability on 3rd December 2023. Injury Matters\, in partnership with Paraplegic Benefit Fund\, are hosting an informative webinar for health professionals\, organisations\, design planners and Local Government bodies who are planning for their upcoming International Day of People with Disability events. This webinar will explore ways to create inclusive spaces and events for people with disability. Inclusive spaces not only benefit organisations\, but also improve health outcomes for people with disability and prevent injury outcomes in WA. \nRegister here
